One of Cairns' finest examples of Queensland style
architecture, this grand old Queenslander, built in the 1930s and
renovated with tender loving care offers our guests luxury with a
difference: private entrance & patio; two bedrooms (Queen and
twin); bathroom; lounge room with TV/video & extensive reference
library; and sunny breakfast room opening onto a spectacular swimming
pool, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, lovingly tended.
Located just five minutes from downtown Cairns in leafy Edge Hill,
Galvin's Bed and Breakfast is one of the most central holiday B&Bs
in town, offering rainforest accommodation to Cairns, Port Douglas,
The Great Barrier Reef and Tropical Far North Queensland.
We
only accept one booking at a time so you are guaranteed the whole
place to yourselves - no need to share. Whether single, double, family
or two groups travelling together, with our special blend of Queensland
hospitality and privacy, you will want for nothing.
Our
relaxing bed & breakfast property offers a private phone line,
laundry facilities, paraphernalia for day trips (cooler,
beach towels, bird books) and luggage storage for those heading
off on further adventures. A home away from home.
"Cairns
bed & breakfast accommodation - Far North Queensland hospitality
- Self contained holiday apartment"
Sound
tempting? ................ read on!

Perfect for
families and groups.
Air
conditioning, screening and ceiling fans ensure your comfort year
round. Luxurious and tastefully decorated, the self contained apartment
has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with two singles; lounge
room with TV/video & library; a sunny breakfast room (fridge,
sink, cutlery & crockery, coffee plunger, coffee, tea, toaster,
hot water jug and more); bathroom; private outside sitting areas front
and back; and your own private entrance. At the back, French doors
& hinged windows fold away to open onto a tropical North Queensland
paradise, the centerpiece being a spectacular, large rock swimming
pool - larger and deeper than most.
The fridge is
stocked with a selection of Australian beer and wines.
Come upstairs and
socialise over a glass of wine after a day's outing or end the day in peace, lounging
quietly by the pool, as you like. Either way, enjoy complete privacy and tranquillity,
with all of the benefits of a homestay.
Don't just take our
word for it, read from our guest book.

Every Friday, we shop at "Rusty's", the weekly fresh market
for local Cairns produce, to ensure the freshest organic locally
grown tropical fruit. Enjoy a fresh fruit platter every morning with
fresh juice, a variety of cereals, toast, cheese, yogurt, freshly
ground coffee and tea.
We find that our guests generally prefer helping themselves, either in the breakfast room
or on the picnic table out by the pool. We can set you up the night before for an early
start on an adventure or a relaxing lazy morning.

Tropical Far North Queensland has so much to offer! The natural environment
is spectacular and the range of high quality tours and self guided
interpretative facilities is dizzying. The cultural diversity and
interpretation is outstanding. As well as the famous tours and places,
there are many more out-of-the-way experiences to be enjoyed for the
more intrepid traveler.
Our
guest welcome pack details our favorite tours and sights in Edge Hill,
Cairns, Port Douglas, Cooktown, the Great Barrier Reef, the Wet Tropics
World Heritage Area including the Daintree River
& Rainforest, and the Atherton Tablelands. It also includes a binder
full of interesting information you're not likely to find in any booking
office. Our library, in your lounge room, has historical as well as extensive
reference information. It also hosts information on out-of the-way places
for the free and independent traveler. For the naturalist or eco tourist
we have the information and contacts to set you in the right direction (you
can find more than 20 species of birds in our garden alone). We are members
of, and actively support Ecotourism Australia.
We have traveled
extensively in the region ourselves, with and without children, and can advise you,
depending on your particular interests. Once you have made up your mind, we can take
care of all of your bookings, arrange convenient pick-up and drop-offs and fine tune
any special requirements you may have. Most of the tours have courtesy buses that will
pick you up either at our front door or in Edge Hill (2 minutes walk). Frequent feedback
from our guests ensures that we pass on only the most up-to-date information.
We can set you up
for day trips with eskies (coolers), beach towels, mats, hats, bird books, and almost
anything else you can think of.
Car hire can be
pre-arranged or done on an ad hoc day-to-day basis. Cairns is well supplied and rarely
runs short.

Located
centrally in Cairns' oldest & most picturesque suburb, we are
a handy five minutes from the airport and five minutes from downtown
Cairns (location map). The village of Edge
Hill, one block away, offers a variety of good restaurants and take
aways (Australian, Chinese, Thai, Fish & Chips, Pizza
and more), a variety of Cafe's, the spectacular Flecker Botanic Gardens,
the scenic Mt Whitfield walking tracks, Melaleuca wetland boardwalk,
the Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitors Centre, The Tanks Community
Art Centre, Post Office, Newsagent, Delicatessen, Bakery, Bottle (liquor)
shop, Convenience (grocery) store, Doctor, Business Centre, Garage
(mechanic), Hairdressers, Beauticians, Massage and Aromatherapy and
more. We are serviced by tour pick-up coaches and hourly by public
bus. Taxis are plentiful and prompt. Taxi fare to town or the airport
is roughly Aus$12.

From Cork, Ireland, Julie (Galvin) has spent many years working in the hospitality
industry in Europe and Australia, and has stayed in many Bed & Breakfasts.
Jesse
works full time as Team Leader of the Environmental Impact Management
Unit of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service's Northern Region.
This is almost half the state of Queensland and covers the protected
area estate including island national parks and marine parks (including
the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park). Jesse has an in-depth knowledge
and understanding of the area's natural and cultural values and how they
are best presented, preserved and experienced.
Now we are happily
raising a family in this magnificent part of the world and welcome you to come and
experience the finest Cairns has to offer.
