Tropical Far North Queensland has so much to offer! The natural environment is spectacular and the range of high quality tours and self guided interpretative facilities is dizzying. The cultural diversity and interpretation is outstanding. As well as the famous tours and places, there are many more out-of-the-way experiences to be enjoyed for the more intrepid traveler.
Our guest welcome pack details our favorite tours and sights in Edge Hill, Cairns, Port Douglas, Cooktown, the Great Barrier Reef, the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area including the Daintree River & Rainforest, and the Atherton Tablelands. It also includes a binder full of interesting information you're not likely to find in any booking office. Our library, in your lounge room, has historical as well as extensive reference information. It also hosts information on out-of the-way places for the free and independent traveler. For the naturalist or eco tourist we have the information and contacts to set you in the right direction (you can find more than 20 species of birds in our garden alone).
We have traveled extensively in the region ourselves, with and without children, and can advise you, depending on your particular interests. Once you have made up your mind, we can take care of all of your bookings, arrange convenient pick-up and drop-offs and fine tune any special requirements you may have. Most of the tours have courtesy buses that will pick you up either at our front door or in Edge Hill (2 minutes walk). Frequent feedback from our guests ensures that we pass on only the most up-to-date information.
We can set you up for day trips with eskies (coolers), beach towels, mats, hats, bird books, and almost anything else you can think of.
Car hire can be pre-arranged or done on an ad hoc day-to-day basis. Cairns is well supplied and rarely runs short.

The hosts Jesse and Julie and family were very welcoming. The house is the bottom level of the hosts' house and is extremely clean and comfortable. Julie provided a fantastic assortment of tea/ coffee/ hot chocolate, cereals, spreads, raisin bread, muffins and fruit platter for breakfast every day. There were also other useful items in the kitchen (oil, glad wrap etc) that made preparation of our own meals a lot easier. It was also great having access to a washer and dryer, BBQ as well as clean towels, esky and an umbrella. For our final night in Cairns, we stayed in a hotel and it made us appreciate the space and facilities we had at Galvin's Edge even more! We are happy to highly recommend this place for a comfortable and relaxing stay in Cairns.
What a great place to stay! The accommodation was just beautiful and the location was very handy to the village of Edge Hill, with plenty of eating options and a supermarket etc within walking distance. The beautiful Botanic Gardens were also an easy walk away. Julie & Jesse were very friendly and made us very welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our tropical fruit platter with breakfast every morning overlooking the lush tropical gardens & pool. We also really appreciated Julie’s recommendations on restaurants, places to see, and things to do. She even made restaurant reservations for us on the first night & also booked our reef cruise. We could not have been happier! Thank you so much
We loved our stay at this little gem of a place in Edge Hill, Cairns! The neighborhood itself is great and a little out of the fray from downtown Cairns. The neighborhood has a grocery store, liquor store and some great restaurants, including one we went to 3 times because we liked it so much! And the beautiful Botanic Gardens are a short walk away. Downtown Cairns itself is about a 20 minute walk (or very easily reachable by cab if you didn't hire a car.) The house was so nice and just perfect for us. Julie was the sweetest host and not only offered help and assistance on booking tours, but also provided us with a home away from home. She was easily and readily available to answer any questions. The house had everything we needed, plus some, including the most gorgeous pool and backyard you will ever see and fresh fruit and other yummy breakfast foods in the morning. I highly recommend this place and would not hesitant to stay there again should we ever find ourselves back in Australia! Thank you so much for your kind hospitality! We loved staying here and you’ve made this feel like home. All the best! Brooklyn, New York 10th July 2018
Thanks so much for your warm hospitality. Your place makes a fantastic base for visiting Cairns and, as in our case, a launching pad for a holiday further north! Thanks too for the excellent advice in choosing local restaurants. Such a beautiful setting and unit – maximising that tropical feel. Victoria 4th August 2018
We had a thoroughly excellent stay at Julie's BNB. The hosts were friendly and helpful and welcoming. Edge Hill is a lovely suburb about 10 minute drive from the center of Cairns. There is a great selection of cafes within a few minutes walk. Highly recommend. Fabulous stay and great relaxing break from the dust and the swags of Cape York! Beautiful peaceful location and very friendly hosts. A top AirBnB! Many Thanks. Brisbane 5th August 2018
Terrific location close to Botanical Gardens , good cafes and the airport. Home is beautiful and a great alternative to the tourist scene. A wonderful tropical breakfast. Julie and Jess are the perfect hosts making us feel welcome and helping out with local info that's well worth a visit " the Petit Crepes Cafe Kuranda". My perfect home away from home. Beautiful home, beautiful gardens and beautiful people! I hope we meet again. Thank You. Groote Island NT 17th August 2018
Galvin's Edge is how I wish all Airbnb's would be. It's a real home and local place (not a sterile apartment someone bought to rent out). We only met Julie during our stay. She was easily accessible and a great source of local knowledge. She anticipated our every need - lots of amazing breakfast food choices pre-stocked for us and tons of towels which we ended up needing for diving and beach trips. I was a little worried about the location but it ended up being perfect. Easy drive to wherever we were going but a nice local neighborhood with good restaurants to come back to. Our first night we were exhausted and cranky and Julie recommended Noa a short walk away. When we arrived we were greeted by name and seated immediately -Julie had called ahead which was so thoughtful. The place itself was comfortable and the backyard has a beautiful pool. Everything was very cozy and homey. Just bring some earplugs as the birds everywhere in Australia wake up very early. San Franciso 11th July 2018
Galvin's is just the best place to stay in Cairns for all reasons; situated in beautiful Edge Hill within walking proximity to the Flecker Botanic Gardens- the accommodation itself in Juile & Jesse's beautifully- restored Queenslander, complete with private garden & swimming pool is perfect - quiet, spotlessly clean, and contains a great reading library - in fact, you don't need to step out the door! And, I haven't even mentioned to the fabulous tropical fruit platter! Highly recommend Hardy's Bay NSW
Galvin's Edge B&B is fantastic! From the moment we arrived, Julie took care of our every need. When she heard my wife was gluten free, she adjusted breakfast foods to suit. When we had a patch of rough weather, she supplied rain jackets and an umbrella. She drove us to the airport to pick up a rental car, which was a spur of the moment decision for us. The property is a lovely two-bed apartment that is well-stocked with books, movies on DVD, and is situated on a property that is an oasis. Based on the property listing, we expected to have a great experience, but Julie made sure our stay was even better than we anticipated. I give a whole-hearted recommendation to Galvin's Edge! Greensboro, North Carolina
We really loved it to stay there! Julie was very nice and has spoiled us. The breakfast was plentiful and rich in vitamins with fresh fruits. The apartment is spacious and and the garden with pool was a very relaxing place. We really recommend this bed and breakfast!! best regards from Munich, Brigitte Germany May 2017
Julie and Jesse are wonderful hosts, and the place is just gorgeous. Very nicely located in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood just minutes from downtown Cairns, the port, and beaches. The apartment is an oasis, surrounded by lush gardens with a very private yard and pool. We awoke to the sound of tropical birds each morning and fresh fruit prepared by Julie. We highly recommend Julie and Jesse for a wonderful vacation getaway!! Monmouth Beach, New Jersey USA
We had a great time staying at Julie's B&B. The rooms (or apartment I would say) was spacious and everything you would ever need is there. Julie and her husband Jesse are the greatest hosts – she gave us lift downtown a couple of times and helped us book our reef trip. If we're ever in Cairns again we'd make sure to stay here. And yes, their pool is very nice. Thank you! Gothenburg, Sweden
Wonderful property in a stunning location! Top it off with a warm, knowledgeable, and capable host and I can't recommend Galvin's Edge enough. Julie was extremely accommodating and, thanks to her, we were able to book a great trip to the Great Barrier Reef. She was prepared with everything from restaurant recommendations to a well-stocked fridge that really made the stay a pleasant experience. The daily fruit tray was amazing and there was no problem tailoring it to my food allergy needs. The property was very well-maintained and nicely appointed. Make sure you try out the pool. It's even better in person! There are several restaurants, amenities, and stunning botanical gardens literally around the corner if you have time to try them out. Highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a tranquil get away in a prime location for restaurants, amenities, and sight-seeing. San Diego, Califorina
Four of us arrived at Galvin's Edge last week and were greeted warmly by Julie and Jesse. The place itself is lovely, well furnished, comfortable, delightful. Mini-fridge was stocked with delicious food for breakfast, the pool was just the right temperature, and we were treated like treasured family members. The B and B is so easy to get to, but tucked into a quiet neighborhood about 10 minutes from the airport. We had everything we needed and spent a lovely two nights in Cairns. Julie even went out to get Thai food for us when our arrival at the airport was later than we had thought. So we were greeted with a hot dinner, exactly what we ordered, as soon as we settled in. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to be comfortable in a home environment that is affordable but that feels extra special. Thanks, Julie and Jesse! Forth Collins, Colorado USA
DELIGHTFUL, TOP QUALITY APARTMENT IN A GREAT LOCATION! Julie and Jesse have put impressive thought and care into this spacious, airy, tasteful, and private garden apartment. The tropical gardens and pool are beautifully landscaped, and we loved taking our meals on the deck, revelling in the tranquil environment and visiting birdlife. It was wonderful to be able to walk to the Botanic Gardens in less than 10 minutes along quiet, tree lined streets. Edgehill village is a pleasant 5 minute stroll, with a nice little supermarket, bottle shop, and several restaurants including the excellent Thai Samgasat recommended by Julie. The breakfast platter was superb, with a variety of fresh fruits. We didn’t get to use the Weber BBQ but will certainly do so next time. We stayed twice. Once for 2 nights, then for 3 on our return from Burketown when it was great to use the conveniently located washing machine and dryer. We were very comfortable and it felt like a ‘home from home’. Julie & Jesse are friendly and thoughtful hosts who live upstairs. We very much look forward to our next visit and exploring more of Edgehill. Darwin, NT 9th October 2018
